A New Smile With Custom Dentures

woodland hills denturesLosing a majority of your teeth could mean major problems with how you eat or speak, and even complications with your facial structure. To preserve your youthful features and maintain good quality of life, you may benefit for a custom set of comfortable and lifelike dentures. In today’s blog, your Woodland Hills, CA, dentist will explain how we craft a set of custom dentures.

Partial Dentures

We suggest partials for people with multiple gaps in their smile, with tooth loss too severe for a set of bridges, but not extensive enough that a full set of dentures is required. The prosthetic itself will contain the new teeth set in a base that mimics the appearance of gum tissues. There will be metal clasps that attach to natural teeth and secure the denture, but will be invisible once your prosthetic is in place. The dentures will be designed and fabricated based on the detailed impressions we take of your smile, ensuring comfortable fit and a lifelike appearance.

A Full Smile

If you’ve lost all of your teeth, to the majority of them, then you need a complete prosthetic. The denture will contain a full row of lifelike and natural looking teeth set in an acrylic base. For the upper jaw, a special adhesive could hold them in place. For the lower jaw, suction could keep them firm. We may need to extract teeth to prepare the smile for them.

Securing Them with Dental Implants

The dentures above are all removable, which means they need to be taken out for cleaning and soaking, and that they last about 5 years on average before requiring replacement. Being replaced is necessary as the jaw ridge changes shape following the loss of your teeth. However, if we insert multiple dental implants into the jaw, this preserves the bone tissue and keeps it from losing mass and density. As a result, the implants can stay in place for decades to come, maybe even a lifetime. Once we attach the prosthetic to the implants, you have a new smile that doesn’t need to be taken out for cleaning or soaking, and will never slip when you eat or speak. Your prosthetic will look natural and stay in place for many years to come!
