Can You Place Dental Implants Same Day?

When a Woodland Hills, CA, patient comes to us with missing teeth, we may suggest implant dentistry as a way to address the gaps in the smile. Often, placement requires two visits, with a 4-6 months in between these visits for the implant to bond with the jawbone. However, we also offer same day dental implants!

Implant Dentistry

The dental implant consists of two main portions. The first, the implant, is made from titanium. Since titanium is biocompatible, the implant bonds with the jawbone once placed. The process is known as osseointegration and takes about four to six months to occur. Afterward, we place the restoration, which addresses the visible portion of your tooth. We use dental crowns to create a lifelike and durable restoration. If you’ve lost several teeth, then we place multiple dental implants and instead of a crown, attach a prosthetic, such as a bridge or denture.

Same Day Placement

Should we need to remove a tooth, such as one that ah become damaged or infected, then you will have a gap in your smile. For qualifying patients, such as those free of advanced gum disease or who haven’t lost portions of their jawbone tissue to untreated tooth loss, we may place a completed dental implant in the same visit, allowing patients to leave with a full smile.

Maintaining Your New Teeth

Once you receive a new tooth, the dental implant will require the same care and attention as a natural tooth. After all, the tooth is still susceptible to damage or loss due to periodontitis or severe infections. Which means you need to brush your teeth twice daily and floss each night before bed. You should also see us every six months for a checkup and cleaning, so we can monitor your new tooth.
