How Do You Repair A Chipped Tooth?

When you chip a tooth, the damage may seem minor. However, you could have a greater risk of developing tooth decay and infection as a result of the damage. How do we repair chipped teeth? Can we fix your smile in a single visit?

Dental Bonding and Contouring

We can often address minor damage in a single visit. With dental bonding, we clean the tooth and prepare the chipped area by gently etching the tooth’s surface. We then apply a composite resin, which we can shade to match the tooth. As the material cures under a light, we can sculpt and mold the tooth. Finally, we polish the tooth for a more lifelike appearance. The entire procedure only takes a one visit.

We can also use contouring. Instead of adding to the tooth, we gently buff away a small amount of structure. We can reshape chipped or overly pointed teeth and remove pits or grooves in the tooth. Not only does contouring only take one visit, but we can often perform the procedure in the same visit as your bonding treatment.

Dental Crowns

For severe breakage or fractures, we need to address the entirety of the tooth’s visible portion. We will prepare the tooth by removing a small amount of outer structure and then taking detailed impressions. The impressions will be used to design and create the custom-made crown. We place the completed restoration in a follow up visit, completely altering the visible part of your tooth. In just two visits, can we restore your smile.
