Dental Bridges & Dentures

Even with excellent dental treatment, not everyone retains all of their natural teeth throughout their lives. When a tooth is lost, the rest of them may be at a greater risk of dental damage, tooth infection, gum disease, and more. The balance of your bite may also become uneven, which can increase your chances of developing bruxism and/or TMJ disorder.

Fortunately, dental bridges and dentures can rebuild your smile and your confidence, as well as prevent the long-term detrimental effects of tooth loss. Crafted from advanced materials, like natural-looking porcelain or zirconia, today’s replacement teeth look and function like strong, healthy teeth.

Dental Bridges

A dental bridge is constructed with one or more replacement teeth, known as pontics. The supportive dental crowns on either end of the pontics are secured to the remaining teeth next to the empty space. If you’ve lost one tooth, or up to three teeth in a row, then your dentist can recommend a custom-designed dental bridge to replace it/them.

Full Dentures

Full dentures, or complete dentures, consist of an entire row of replacement teeth supported by a comfortable, gum-colored acrylic base. If you have lost most or all of your teeth on the lower and/or upper dental ridges, then you will need full dentures to restore your smile, as well as your bite’s ability to function.

Partial Dentures

When you’ve lost more than one tooth, but they are not adjacent to each other, a dental bridge is typically not the ideal solution. Instead, we can fashion a custom partial denture, which is designed to replace the teeth you’ve lost while fitting around the teeth that remain. Like a traditional, or full, denture, a partial can span your entire dental ridge, but will also rely on hidden clasps to remain secure.

The Support of Dental Implants

While dental bridges and dentures have long been a part of professional dental care, dental implants are a relatively new innovation. They are small, root-like posts made from biocompatible material (usually titanium) that are placed into the jawbone, then utilized to support an appropriate dental prosthesis.

Single implants can support a single dental crown, or a combination of implants can support a partial or complete denture, depending on how many teeth you’ve lost. With the anchored support, your replacement teeth will rest more securely and perform more like healthy, natural teeth.
