Dental Crowns
Protecting Teeth With Custom Dental Crowns
Dental crowns are indirect restorations, meaning they are crafted in a laboratory according to a model of your tooth, and then bonded in place afterwards. To restore and protect the tooth, a dental crown is placed over the top of it, offering coverage all the way to the gum line. To improve the tooth’s appearance, the crown is custom-designed and crafted from natural-looking materials to match its size, shape, and color. For optimal results, Doctors Naminik, Hirsch, and Koshki are dedicated to creating restorations that closely mimic natural, healthy tooth structure. The materials and methods we use help keep your tooth strong and bacteria-free, reducing your chances of needing more extensive treatment later.
What Dental Crowns Do
Because dental crowns are designed to cover the entire top portion of a tooth, they can be used for a variety of reasons, such as to;
- Fix a tooth that has been cracked or fractured.
- Restore a tooth that has been broken (meaning a piece has separated from its main structure).
- Protect a tooth that has received a large filling, or endodontic treatment.
- Improve a tooth’s outward appearance and stability.
- Replace a lost tooth (when placed on top of a dental implant).
What Dental Crowns Are Made Of
Like all restorations, dental crowns are customized to meet every patient’s specific needs, and can be made from a variety of biocompatible materials. Porcelain and zirconia are among the most lifelike, and are able to replicate your tooth’s unique color and ability to reflect light. In some cases, a porcelain-fused-to-metal (PFM) crown may be recommended, usually for molars in the back of the mouth that are exposed to the most bite pressure.
