Ready For A Much Brighter Smile?

woodland hills teeth whiteningDo you have discolored teeth? Instead of trying to avoid smiling and ducking out of pictures, why not seek professional treatment? With our custom-made teeth whitening treatments, we can remove stains and help you smile with confidence. In today’s blog, your Woodland Hills, CA, dentist talks about cosmetic teeth whitening.

The Causes of Teeth Stains

Why do our teeth become stained? This could be due to a number of factors. Poor oral hygiene, such as a diet high in sugar and starch and infrequent brushing and flossing habits, could allow plaque buildup to develop and make discoloration more visible. Drinks with dark pigments and stains, like tea, red wine, soda, and coffee, could discolor them, and could the use of tobacco products. As part of your treatment, we will assess the cause of your stains and recommend the most appropriate treatment option. For many, this is our at-home teeth whitening procedure.

Custom Aligners and Whitening Gel

To begin, you will stop by our office so we can create a set of custom trays. These will fit snugly over the teeth, but comfortably, and allow the teeth whitening gel to be spread evenly across the teeth. We then send you home with the trays and a bleaching gel. At home, you will fill the trays with gel and wear them for about 30 to 45 minutes a day. After about one to two weeks, you could have teeth brightened by several layers, and then you keep the trays and leftover gel for touchups as needed. Should you have intrinsic discoloration, caused by injury to the teeth, fluorosis, or the use of certain medications, we could discuss dental bonding or even porcelain veneers to mask your teeth stains completely!

Keeping Your Smile Shining

Aside from using the trays and gel, you can keep teeth brighter for longer by brushing and flossing every day, and seeing us for checkups and cleanings every six months. You should also cut back on sugary and starchy foods, and consume more water in lieu of soda and other staining beverages. These actions will not only help your smile stay bright, but also fight plaque and tartar buildup to reduce the risk of tooth decay and gum disease.
