Ready To Schedule Your Next Checkup?

woodland hills checkupEvery six months, we hope to see our patients both young and old for a checkup. These routine visits enable us to keep a close eye on your smile over the years, and offer care to prevent oral health issues. In today’s blog, your Woodland Hills, CA, dentist will explain what to expect from a checkup, and why you shouldn’t skip your next one!

Examining Your Smile

An exam means that every six months, our team has a chance to take a close look at your teeth, roots, gums, and oral structures. The checkup means we identify possible areas of concern, usually in the early stages if you’ve been attending your checkups as recommended, so we treat them before you develop painful symptoms or require more extensive (and expensive) treatment options. We suggest a visit twice a year for kids two and older, and for teens and adults too.

Creating an Accurate Diagnosis

To carefully look for the early stages of demineralization, decay, and infection, we may use digital x-rays and intraoral cameras. We then obtain detailed images in seconds, so we can walk you through the diagnostic process chairside, and diagnose your smile with precision and accuracy. We also look for warning signs of gingivitis, gum disease, TMJ disorder, bruxism, (teeth grinding), and for adults, we may screen for oral cancer. For kids, we also look for developing misalignment and other complications as well. From there, a personalized treatment plan could be employed to help you enjoy optimal oral health!

Cleaning the Teeth

A dental cleaning is performed in the same visit for kids and adults alike. A dental cleaning is basically a procedure in which we use an ultrasonic scaling device and a manual tool to break up and remove all plaque and tartar buildup from the smile. We then polish the smile thoroughly. The process lowers the risks of cavities and gum disease, and also fights teeth stains and bad breath too! If you have symptoms of gingivitis or gum disease, we could also perform a deeper cleaning to remove buildup from the roots as well. If you have any questions about our approach to preventive dentistry, or if you would like to schedule a visit for you or a member of your family, then contact our team today. We want to help you enjoy a stronger, healthier smile throughout 2021 and beyond.
