Creating Invisalign® Aligners With iTero®

woodland hills invisalignInvisalign® aligners are a cosmetic option for correcting misalignment, so you can obtain a clear smile again. To design them with accuracy and precision, our team could use digital impressions created with the iTero® system. In today’s blog, your Woodland Hills, CA, dentist talks about the Invisalign® and iTero® systems!

The Impact of Misalignment

Dental misalignment could develop due to a number of factors, such as premature tooth loss, injury to the face or jaw, thumb sucking in childhood, or complications with the growth and development of your jaw and the eruption of the teeth. Without treatment, malocclusion could increase the risk of tooth decay and gum disease, as thorough brushing and flossing is much more difficult. In addition, this could lead to bite imbalance and increase the chances of TMJ disorder and bruxism (teeth grinding) occurring. Not to mention the embarrassment you may feel regarding your smile’s appearance. To address these concerns, we can reposition the teeth with orthodontic treatment, including a nearly invisible option with Invisalign®.

The iTero® System

To get started, we will need to assess the cause and extent of your alignment concerns to see if this is the right choice for you. If so, then we will use the iTero® system to obtain detailed digital images of your smile from multiple angles. We then combine them to create a detailed 3D impression, which we use to design and fabricate the aligners in a lab setting. The Invisalign® aligners will be clear and made from a BPA-free plastic material. They fit comfortably and help provide a solution to your dental misalignment!

Invisalign®

The treatment process is relatively simple. You will wear a set of the plastic aligners each day for about 20 to 22 hours on average, the exact time depending on the extent of your alignment concerns. Every two weeks, you will move on to the next set in the series. This process continues for the entire treatment period, usually wrapping up after about a year for adults, or up to 18 months for teens. They can be removed easily before meals, so you don’t have to alter how you eat, and being removable means a much easier time brushing and flossing your teeth. As long as you wear them for the amount of time we prescribe, you can also take them out for special occasions, like first dates, job interviews, or graduations.
